August brings the beginning of the Fall Chinook and Coho runs to the north coast. This fall with the elimination of commercial fishing off the coast this summer may be some of the best fishing we have seen for large returning Chinooks and Silvers.
We begin on the ocean and Lower Columbia in the Astoria Area. An estimated 780,000 plus salmon will pass this area over the next several weeks. We then move up river alittle to catch Fall Chinooks in the Rainer area prior to the State closing the season.
Then we will move to the Tillamook & Nehalem Bays systems for Big Fall Nooks as they stage to make the runs up the Wilson, Nehalem, Nestucca and Necanicum. Trolling herring, spinners and fising eggs/shrimp under bobbers will bring fish to 40 pounds to the boat with a few closing in on fifty!
